Company Background

CHOPROP is a South African based Real Estate Group, specializing in property within the emerging and mainstream Real Estate market. CHOPROP has a proud history of experience with an unbeatable record of success on concluding an umpteen number of deals since its inception in July 2007. CHOPROP was founded by husband and wife team Yusuf & Shazia Essa, local entrepreneurs who started from humble beginnings.

The company was formed after the couple decided to take their Sunday afternoon house-hunting hobby to another level. What started in a garage, from a home business, has now become an International Multi-Award Winning Brand and “House-Sold” name in Property. The couple’s initial idea was to BUY, SELL and LET property as investors. A few years later their brainchild “CHOPROP” evolved into one of the largest independently owned B-BBEE (Broad- Based Black Economic Empowerment) Real Estate groups in South Africa. CHOPROP continues to effectively and expertly market and develop property investments in some of the country’s most desirable locations.

CHOPROP has further extended its business reach in the market place through franchising. With a plan to roll-out approximately 300 franchises over the medium to long term and the current upturn in the developing property market we feel it is the right time to bring other operators on board. Franchisees will also benefit from leveraging off the successful CHOPROP brand.

CHOPROP is a member of SAPOA and is registered with the Estate Agency Affairs Board.

CHOPROP is 100% black owned and is a B-BBEE contributor.

Yusuf Essa

Chief Executive Officer

Yusuf, popularly known as Choppee, an entrepreneur who started his business career in the Marketing field – initially as brand manager at Kwality Biscuits, for a period of five years, after which he started his own business in the wholesale FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) market, called Plan Marketing. This business which marketed and distributed general merchandise to a network of 600 stores countrywide was later franchised and then sold in order to pursue another opportunity in the retail sector. In the year 2000, Yusuf launched a retail cash and carry business within the informal sector in the heart of the North West Province, called Kwiksave. This business employed ±70 staff and ran successfully for a period of eleven years. Having achieved much success it was time to move on again – when a Sunday afternoon house hunting hobby was taken to another level. Together with his spouse, Shazia Essa, they made their entry into the real estate market and CHOPROP was born. With the fast growing business at CHOPROP, Yusuf’s other business with the Vodacom retail outlets had to be sold, to devote more focus to his real estate business career. CHOPROP’s numerous International Awards and accolades are clear proof of Yusuf’s leadership skills and the driving force behind their successful business.

Shazia Essa


A qualified physiotherapist who made a career change, from having a private practice to business management in the retail sector – Shazia joined Yusuf and helped with the management of his various business ventures. Having a passion and flair for property, Shazia joined ERA Real Estate, South Africa as an agent, in 2006. On noticing the niche’s and gaps within the real estate market, Shazia joined her husband in CHOPROP in 2007 to grow the business. Shazia is currently the co-principal on record for CHOPROP and overlooks all aspects of the company’s business and administration.

CHOPROP's Auctioneering division frequently hosts Multi-Property, Multi-Million Rand Auction Disposals, showcasing a diverse range of commercial and residential properties. This method of selling under the hammer, fast tracks sales results for our sellers. The sellers find it quick and convenient that properties are not kept on the market for long periods of time. Buyers attending the auction find good value in the properties that are professionally presented and showcased at our auctions. The benefits to our clients include a fast sale, whereby market related prices are achieved and the seller pays no commission on standard auctions. Estate Agents Affairs Board (EAAB)

The Board is the industry regulator for the South African Real Estate Industry. Membership provides security to our clients. Our company and our agents receive an annual Fidelity Fund Certificate, this ensures that our clients remain protected against any fraudulent activities. Clients are insured and covered for any claim by the fidelity fund. Registration ensures maximum legal compliance to the laws in South Africa.

SA Institute of Auctioneers (SAIA)
